CIA Coke Drum Laser & Video Inspection

Since 1993, CIA Inspection has been providing this top quality unique inspection technique to improve the reliability of coke drums. This on-line inspection characterizes the internal profile of the vessel. The "baseline" scan establishes the current condition of the coke drums and subsequent scans enable the refiner to track and trend the vessel condition.

CIA is not just another inspection company. We specialize in coke drums and have performed our inspection service world wide on over 700 coke drums of all sizes and metallurgy.

For over 15 years, we have given the same top quality service that the industry expects from us. Our vast industry knowledge gives us the edge to compare drums with industry wide trends allowing operators to gage how their drums compare to other drums at other sites. Our customized software allows the user to see the bulge growth in the drum over time and focus on the failure prone areas.ACFM Crawler approaching drum wall

We are moving forward with new inspection techniques, using a remotely deployed ACFM (Alternating Current Field Measurement) probe to size surface-breaking cracks on the drum wall. This technique, like our laser range-camera, can be deployed in a live drum between cycles, allowing information to be gathered without down-time or scaffolding. We have completed a successful field trial of the installation and technique and are working to make the system commercially available in the first quarter of 2010.

We work with other industry leaders such as Stress Engineering, Chicago Bridge & Iron and Sumitomo Heavy Industries to provide a combined approach to help improve the life of the coke drum.

CIA can provide the refiner with the right tools to make decisions on drum repair or replacement. CIA can recommend other external NDE methods to enhance the refiners knowledge of the areas of concern highlighted by our remote laser and visual inspection. From this information, refiners can implement a proactive maintenance plan to improve the reliability and life of their coke drums. Working with the refiner, CIA provides the best quality service for coke drum reliability.
